I have one category that’s in trouble and that’s Science Fiction. It doesn’t matter if I do is as Sci-Fi or Science Fiction. When I click on it the resulting listing has three non Sci-Fi pieces listed first. The remainder are correct. Makes me suspect an undocumented string test that I’ve triggered.

  • Please post a link so we can see the the problem. Also, if you can post the theme code you are using to pull the results that would also be helpful.

Question: Try switching your theme to the WP Default ( Twenty Ten ) and see if you have the same problem. Post your results,

I’ve tries 3 other themes and the problem persists.

I see that the three posts that are incorrectly showing in the Science Fiction category, are all also associated with the War category.

Inside the War category, you have two posts “The Next Logical Step By Ben Bova” and “Belly Laugh by Ivar Jorgensen” that are also associated with Science Fiction.

Although WordPress allows you to associate a post with many categories with no problem, I’m wondering if you are using some kind of “related posts” plugin that will build relationships between posts based on categories they are associated with.

We know the issue is not in your theme, because you’ve switched it and the problem persists.

Any information you can provide on your plugins, etc… will help with narrowing down to find the problem.

At present the only active plugins are Askimet and Blubrry Powerpress. I’d tried Alphabetical List and Post Page Associator but both are deactivated. – Roy

Just found the problem. The category War had Science Fiction as its parent. I made it separate and that solved it.

Wonderful – Please be sure to make this topic Solved
