category description not showing

  • I have text in description field of a category in a child theme of twenty twelve. It does not display in the category archive page.
    category.php has

    <?php if ( category_description() ) : // Show an optional category description ?>
				<div class="archive-meta"><?php echo category_description(); ?></div>
			<?php endif; ?>
			</header><!-- .archive-header -->

    in it which I think should display the description unless I am missing something.
    I have tried it with twenty twelve itself, instead of the child theme, and disabled all plugins, with the same result. The description does not display. Is there a second step to take to make it display?

  • Have it category.php with the following two line?

    <?php global $cat; ?>
    <?php echo category_description( $cat ); ?>

    If no. You can try this two line in index.php.

    <?php if( is_category() ) : ?>
    <?php global $cat; ?>
    <?php echo category_description( $cat ); ?>
    <?php endif; ?>
