Category Based Monthly Archives?

My website is divided in to different dynamic sections, all of which are actually just different blog posts categories with custom templates. What I want to do is, in the templates for these different categories, present the archive as it normally looks on every WordPress blog (monthly), except that these archives actually just contain the posts from that certain category.

What I’ve tried so far is this plugin: https://kwebble.com/blog/2007_08_15/archives_for_a_category and one called Category Based Archives, but none of them actually work the way they’re intended.

The first one does the job in that it actually limits the archive which is presented in the sidebar is limited to months that contain posts from the specific category. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to create a valid hyperlink. It constructs this link: ” https://…./2010/05/?cat=8 ” – which eventually just redirects to the category archive, without actually limiting it to the month specified.

I could probably tweak this plugin to forward to the right URL, but as far as I know WordPress doesn’t actually have this possibility (showing archive for a certain category for a certain month) by default?

Anyone have any suggestions?
