• Experiencing a bug with a client’s wordpress site where posts aren’t linked to categories all of a sudden.

    – You go to the blog homepage, you can see all the posts
    https://www.dynamicscare.com/blog/

    – You go to a category page, it says no posts
    https://www.dynamicscare.com/blog/index.php/category/dynamics-ax/

    – Inside the WP-Admin Dashboard, the “Categories” section is empty
    — when you add a new category it shows up for a section, then on refresh it disappears and the list is empty

    – While editing a post, the category list is missing and it shows no categories

    – BUT inside the database, it appears the category data is there
    — I’ve even pointed wordpress to a 2 week old version of the database to test, and it didn’t resolve this issue

Server is Windows Server 2003 with IIS6

Any ideas or suggestions where to start?
    – This doesn’t appear to be a Permalinks issue
    – The site was functioning 100% 5 days ago, nothing has changed during that time period.
    – We upgraded from 3.1 to 3.21 around 3 weeks ago and site was working fine up until 5 days ago

    Thanks!!

  • What’s happening if you edit a post ? Can you see categories on the right pan ?

Otherwise, as nothing changed during that time period, you can restore your database with the 5 days ago dump.

    It’s blank, screenshot: https://awesomescreenshot.com/091kqd985

But if you click “Most Used”, you can see the categories as they used to exist in “All Categories”!

Damn, I don’t have a db backup from 5 days ago – I would have to go 3 weeks back, to 3.1x then upgrade again, etc – which is doable but I’m trying to avoid.

Right now I’m copying everything to a local dev server to see if it has something to do with the server environment. I read somewhere the mysql caching getting “full” could affect this??

RESOLVED: I did some cleaning of HDD space and recycled the Application Pool in the IIS Manager and it started working again.. ?? I really have no idea how.
