    Greetings,

I have searched for precise answers and only found one (which does not work) for the category problem. I wish for all the categories I have created to show now, not after they have posts. Lastly, there is no way for me(posing/testing as a new user)to login and subsequently create a password. Two notes: When logged in as admin, there is nothing to “display/hide” categories whether posted to or not; the “fix” I found may work, but I have yet to find the line in sidebar.php to change category behavior. Perhaps someone who reads this can look to see if they can post? https://craigtarwater.com/weblog/

Thanks in advance, this looks like fun once I get it figured; I did with my Cubecart, so I should be able to/will with WordPress.

    Craig

  • When someone registers, they are emailed a password immediately. They can then change this in their profile.

It’s WP default that categories do not show up unless there is a post.

Thanks you for your reply; I knew of that, but found here something about changing the sidebar.php file. Problem being there is no evidence of the code which had to be changed to “show” or left at the default, “hide empty categories”. I would have thought it would be in the CSS files. Anyway, besides that I cannot post to anything but the “uncategorized” one, and then only if I login as admin. So in closing this long-winded diatribe, I cannot see where in the “dashboard” or anywhere in the admin page to set anything other than myself, or else add new users before they arrive, which of course, is impossible. I will keep looking for it hoping someone here knows what I should do.

    Thanks again, Craig`- https://craigtarwater.com/weblog

I have solved part of my situation in that I posted a test message to my categories. Now all I need to make right is for “joe internet user” to be able to reply to my daily posts. After that I can concentrate on learning how to make my weblog’s appearance distinctive. At this time, no one can reply unless they are “logged in”, and I cannot do it as a “stranger” from another machine. As my own admin, I cannot get the (what I perceive to be) the correct action when I click on “users can (register themselves) or you can manually create users here”. Maybe I’m not supposed to allow strangers to reply? Anyway, still a bit stuck on this one.

All fixed; sure helps if one looks around, huh?

I can’t find the way to show a new person how to create a login so they can post. I think this is the same as what you solved? Please tell where you found the solution.
    Thanks,
    Judy
