Categories seem completely broken

Is it just me or do categories seem completely broken? At first glance, they seem like a great way to organize content, BUT

1. If you use hierarchical categories, the post does not automatically inherit parent categories.
2. If you choose a parent and child category, then the post is confused about which one it really belongs to.
3. If you choose two categories for the post, although it will show up in both category feeds, it will pretend that it really belongs to the first one you chose.
4. Although you can easily filter by tag using the URL (site.com/tag/this+that), it seems impossible to do within a category, meaning you have to duplicate your category as a tag.

My recommendation is:
1. Rename Uncategorized to something innocuous
2. Only use Tags

Please show me that I’m wrong.
