• Recently we realized that our Style Categories pages (Style + Gear in Main and Secondary Nav) are loading all posts with the category style plus a couple posts from the wrong categories, that are not under the Style Category. I’ve turned all of my plugins off and back on and removed the Category Pages and re-added them. Not sure how to additionally trouble shoot this problem. A couple links below as examples –

  • A few ideas:

    1. Double check your categories marked. (It happens to the best of us)

    2. Try disabling all (or most) plugins and switching to a standard wordpress theme (e.g. twenty seventeen) and see if the issue persists.

Note: depending on how your site is build, there could be breaking changes (although based on your post it sounds like you’ll be okay)

    3. (complicated) If your posts are part of custom post types (rather than the built-in, “posts”), you may need to allow them to use the default archive views or have templates written for them.

the category ‘style‘ seems to be, for example, the parent category of ‘wellness‘ …

generally, category archives do call posts of the corresponding category and all its child categories.

    Hi Mizner and Michael,

I checked my categories and we have not selected any parent categories for any of the categories. I double checked and the category ‘wellness’ has no parent category.

Is there somewhere else other then Post > Categories that could be causing the category ‘style‘ seems to be, for example, the parent category of ‘wellness‘?

I also double checked that my categories were marked.

Disabled all plugins and switched to a standard wordpress theme.

We also do not have custom Post types.

Thank you both for your help.

what was the result when you view the ‘style’ category with all plugins disabled and with the default theme Twenty Seventeen active?

    Hi Michael

Here is the result to viewing the ‘style’ category with all plugins disabled and with the default theme Twenty Seventeen active?

The Style Categories are all correct after disabling my theme + all plugins and activating Twenty Seventeen.

When I then re-activate my theme “Divine” and leave all the plugins off the Category ‘style’ Issue remains the same.

Would this mean there is something wrong with the theme or the genesis framework?

Would this mean there is something wrong with the theme or the genesis framework?

there could be some coding in your theme or the framework which causes your problem.

please ask the developer of your theme or the genesis framework for help.

    Hi Michael,

We narrowed it down to a issue with the Genesis Framework. I am now working with them to fix the category malfunction.

    Thank you for your help
