    Hi there,

Since the last update 3 days ago I have an issue: categories are not showing anymore in Att. Categories page. But there are still somewhere because I can filter with. An other weird behavior is when I add a new category, it’s not showing and I’m redirect under the Article tab / Categories page.

    I have polylang.

Thank you for your report; I regret the trouble you’re having with the MLA/Polylang support for taxonomy editing. I have found a defect in the current MLA version that may be the source of the problem.

You can immediately avoid the problem by going to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab, scrolling down to the Taxonomy Support section and unchecking the “Compute Attachments Column” box. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Save Changes” to record the new setting.

I have uploaded a new MLA Development Version dated 20151211 that corrects the problem. To get the Development Version, follow the instructions in this earlier topic:

Shortcode not working in (special) widget

It would be great if you could install the Development Version and let me know if it works for you. I have not been able to reproduce your “other weird behavior” so it would be helpful to know if that is also fixed on your system.

Thanks for your report and for your help in testing the resolution.

I have released MLA version 2.41, which includes the Polylang fix for the Attachments Column problem.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems with the new version.

    Hi David,

I came to this thread after experiencing the very same problem. I had just installed Polylang. After reading your input here, I deactivated Polylang and the MLA problems disappeared. I re-activated Polylang and MLA is not working well once again. I have MLA updated to 2.41.

This is a summary of the MLA problems I’ve found with Polylang activated:

    – Att. Categories not listing despite being defined and usable. This is actually resolved by applying your advice above about the MLA settings. But there’s more:

    – bulk selection checkbox in the list view doesn’t work. I can check the box but it has no effect (i.e. no actual selection happens)

    – Bulk action Apply button has no effect, i.e. bulk edit window (if Edit was the selected option) is not shown at all.

Hope you can help, thanks in advance

    @viajarapie,

Thanks for your report. Can you tell me what version of Polylang you are using?

version 2.1.2. I just installed it, it must be the latest available

Thanks for confirming your Polylang version; 2.1.2 looks like the latest version.

I have re-tested various MLA/Polylang combinations. On my system:

    1. Polylang v2.0.12 fails with MLA v2.40
    2. Polylang v2.0.12 works with MLA v2.41
    3. Polylang v2.1.2 works with MLA v2.40
    4. Polylang v2.1.2 works with MLA v2.41

I was surprised to see that the latest Polylang version works with the older MLA version!

You wrote “Att. Categories not listing despite being defined and usable. This is actually resolved by applying your advice above about the MLA settings.” I understand that to mean that you do not see the “Attachments” column in the Att. Categories taxonomy edit admin screen, but that disabling the “Compute Attachments Column” option restores the taxonomy edit screen to full operation. Is that right?

You wrote “bulk selection checkbox in the list view doesn’t work.” and “Bulk action Apply button has no effect” when you select the “Edit” action. That looks like a separate problem which is preventing JavaScript scripts from running in your browser. The first thing to try is clicking the browser “refresh” button or clearing your browser cache. That will reload the scripts from scratch and replace any obsolete scripts. If that does not work, do you know how to check for script errors in your browser? What browser are you using?

Thanks for any additional details you can provide.

    Correct, that’s what I meant.

Mostly Chrome. I just tried with Firefox and MS Edge with the same result. Tried clearing all browser data in Edge, no effect. I then de-activated Polylang and everything returned to normal in MLA. The 3 browsers show the same behavior.

I’ll be off-line for the weekend. I’ll try to follow your suggestion to check for script errors after that. I’ll get back with whatever I find.

Thanks a lot for your time and help, much appreciated!

    Hi again,

I’ve tried with different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) in different computers and it’s always the same result. I’ve used Firefox console to check for javascript errors and none show up.

The only thing I can think of that would make my installation somewhat special is that I recently moved it to a different folder. I hadn’t noticed this problem before the move but I didn’t have Polylang installed either so it’s not possible to establish a correlation but you might research if MLA has any absolute path that sets at the time of installation.

What’s clear is that there’s something about MLA-Polylang because if I deactivate Polylang MLA works fine.

Please let me know if you find something or if you need me to test anything.

    Thanks once again

Thanks for your update and for the work you have put into running tests and investigating this issue; much appreciated.

At this point I have two alternatives to suggest. First, you could give me a temporary account on your site so I can have a look at the problem. I realize that may not be possible. Second, you could activate some MLA debug logging that would tell me more about what is going on.

For either alternative it would be great if you activated the MLA Debug tab and logging. You can find more information in the “MLA Debug Tab” section of the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab. If you send me your contact information I can give you more detailed instructions and an email address where you can send log files and other information. You can use the Contact Us page at our web site:

Thanks for your continued help with this interesting issue!

Hi, you got my message through the website form. Thanks a lot for the support!

Thanks you for working with me offline and especially for granting me access to your site so I could get to the root of the problem.

You activated the Polylang plugin but did not define any languages on the Settings/Languages admin submenu. MLA did not handle this “no languages” case, and this explained all of the symptoms you experienced. You can avoid the problems by defining at least one language for your site.

I have uploaded a new MLA Development Version dated 20170315 that corrects the problem. The fix will also go out in the next official MLA version.

Thanks again for your help with this MLA defect and for your interest in the plugin.

Thanks to you for your involvement and for finding the fix. I just checked and it works well now.
