Categories for CMS site

  • I am in the process of transferring my joomla site to wp and will be running it as a CMS rather than a blog.

    Can someone point me in the right direction regarding the use of categories as it seems to me that these are only used for posts under wp.

    Should I keep the categories transferred from joomla?

    What would be the advantages/disadvantages of deleting them.
