categories for blog on website showing up on all site pages

  • I am attempting to set up categories for my blog posts on the blog page of my WP website. I added the categories widget and that shows up on all of my website pages, not just the blog page. How do I set up the categories function on the blog page only?
    Also when I set up the categories will that serve as an archive function?

  • The Categories Widget lists all of your existing (populated?) categories – not pages. You create categories by using the Admin/Posts/Categories page. You then file posts under categories using the Add new/edit Post page.
