Categories disappear and it affects my theme

  • Hello all,

    I am having a technical issue with my site related to the categories page.

    I have talked to my theme’s owner and he told me that the problem lies with WordPress not the theme as he tried working on it.

    Whenever I build my homepage with my new theme, the categories page shows up empty. It deletes all of my tags in my articles and categories are blank. It says that there are two pages of categories, but they do not show. Also, it affects my widgets. Whenever this categories problem happens the widgets cannot be edited.

    The theme editor disabled all of my plugins and the problem is currently fixed, but he told me not to reedit the homepage until I have found a solution. Any suggestions?

    (By the way: with respect to plugins, I don’t think that I have downloaded any recently or immediately before this problem started.)

  • What theme is this? Do you have the same problem on the default theme with ALL plugins deactivated?

    Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    Well, whenever the problem occurred, I switched to a default theme with some plugins working. The problem was still there. However, the theme editor also told me that he checked with a default theme and the problem was still there.

    I was thinking that it may be a problem with a corrupt file or damaged file, and I reuploaded the newest version two days ago. But that was only a reupdate, not a complete reload.

    Also, my theme is Sahifa a themeforest theme.

    You replaced the WP files?

    Could we see the site with ALL plugins off and the default theme active?

    No I didn’t replace the WP files. How can I do that?

    The categories are currently working, because the theme editor reset the theme so there is no customization. Whenever I add a homepage customization, I have this problem with the categories.

    All plugins are off right now and it is in default theme.

    Do you still have a problem with tags & categories?

    At the moment no, but I think that I can recreate the problem. Or it will occur again.

    Can you replicate the problem using your original theme – still with all plugins deactivated?

    Ok for the moment, it is working. All plugins are disabled and I have made some customizations to the theme, which usually cause the issue. It usually takes a few minutes to cause the problem though.

    Do you think that it is a plugin problem then? If so, should I reactivate them all and see if the problem returns?

    How long does it normally take for the problem to re-occur?
