Categories as on deviantart

I know it is possible to use a widget to show categories on the sidebar. However, is it possible to do it as on deviantart? On deviantart, there are categories on the sidebar, which is all the parent categories. When you click on a parent category it goes to the page with the category, but are then showing all the sub-categories on that page?
