• I’ve checked previous threads and haven’t found an answer. For weeks now my sidebar search and categories frequently (if not always) return a 404 error message and seem to direct to https://www.ifitshipitshere.com/undefined

I tried deactivating plug-ins, but no change. I tried changing permalinks to default, that did not work. I tried using the lijit search box, that had the same problem.

Now I selected to strip the category base in SEO Yoast and that seems to help some of the time. But sometimes even if you just place the cursor in the search box it jumps to a 404 page error.

One other thing to note. Once it returns the 404 page error, if you search by keywords in that box, it does work.

I’m not super code savvy. can someone please advise?

The site is https://www.ifitshipitshere.com and is hosted on iPower

Adding more info. Now that I’ve been playing with the plugins and settings), I’ve noticed that if I deactivate the SEO Yoast plug in, the SEARCH works but the categories do not work at all.

Also, how come sometimes the SEARCH returns the posts with an image and sometimes it does not?

    PLEASE help!

I’m not seeing any 404 errors when I search or select categories. Any keyword or category in particular that you know for a fact doesn’t work?

Hi Jackie. Yes, right now, for me (I’m using Firefox), not one single category will work, they all return you to the home page. Try “modern aquariums’ for instance.

When WordPress SEO is deactivated right now,the search box seems to work, but categories all return the home page.

Learning More. WP Supercache seems to be responsible for the returning of the 404 error pages. When activated, the categories return 404 Error page.

In both cases, the search box feature is very inconsistent.

Ok, when I select the category (any category) it works just fine. But when I type in some letters to search through the list the hit enter, I get a 404 page. So it sounds like there’s an issue with the Javascript. You might consider adding a ‘GO’ button or using a different widget for this feature. What plugin are you currently using?

    Ah, interesting.

The search box and categories are both the standard WordPress ones that were included in the theme. No plugins for those.

Now, I have another issue. I deactivated all the plug-ins to try to work on this and after reactivating Jet Pack, my mobile site doesn’t seem to be working. Augh.

This isn’t a default theme, did you try switching to twentythirteen or twentyfourteen? You might try re-activating your plugins one by one to see where the culprit is (I would bet there’s a jQuery version conflict).

I will try that. I have no idea what a jQuery conflict is, but I will look into it. Thanks Jackie!
