I’m creating a new WordPress site and it’s the first time I’m using the newest version (3.7.1). I upgraded after installing a couple plug-ins, but before making any posts or categories or menus or anything else. When I go to make a new category, I can enter in the information and press Add New Category, and the *number* of categories increases, but the actual list of categories stays blank and says “No items found”. I can create, say, five categories, and it will say “5 items” in the upper and lower corners below the list, but the list of categories itself will still say “No items found”. If I search for a category I know I’ve made, it will change to the number of categories it “found,” but the list will still be unpopulated.

When I make a new post or menu, no categories show up, nor does it allow me to create a new category from there.

The menus do pretty much the same thing. I’ll create a menu, but then it will say that none are there. If I try to make a menu again with the same name, it will give me an error due to the name conflicting, however… none will be there.

For a hot minute the categories suddenly appeared! And I added the one post I made to a category. But then I refreshed and they were back to being invisible again. Now I think if I edit the post it will go back to being uncategorized. And of course I can’t add any of the invisible categories to the invisible menus.

I also can’t disable comments, but I’m not sure if this is related.

None of the problem seems to be on the front end, but in case it matters, ethanjhulbert.com

As I was posting this, things seem to have suddenly changed on their own.

All that stuff is still invisible, however, now the reply box is gone, and it just says “Comments are closed,” even though I disabled the widget so it shouldn’t even say anything about comments in the first place. However, the widget still exists on the post I had made BEFORE these changes happened by themselves, so on the first post comments still are available and I can’t get rid of them, and on the second post it says “comments are closed.” Um, okay.

It occurs to me that I’ve also deleted the search bar and the text box widgets, however, they still exist on every post and are unremovable and uneditable. This is an absolute disaster.

Did you get this fixed? I’m using WP 4.0 and having the same problem with creating a category and it showing 2 Items but listing nothing (ie “No items found.”)

Fresh install, no plugins. Also tried downloading the WP files again, deleting the database, again same problem.

Solved – this is to do with the /tmp folder either being full or not existing. I’m using UniServer and by creating a new folder called “tmp” in the root folder the categories magically came back!
