Categories and 2.3

  • I am considering upgrading to 2.3, mainly because the Sidebar Widgets is not working in my blog under version 2.0.11. However, I’ve read that 2.3 treats categories so completely differently that it is sometimes corrupting blogs with complex category arrangements. As my blog relies on a highly structured parent/child category arrangement, I’m fearful about making this upgrade.

    Any advice?

  • Well, if you have template tags that were deprecated since 2.1 or custom queries to the formely existent category tables… you might have problems.

    Have a test installation (in a subfolder) of your existing blog with its own DB (that replicates the present one) and try the upgrade on that one. See if you can take care of the possible issues. If you can make it work – do the same on your main blog. Just an idea…
