  • Not sure what you are asking, but every theme has an option to show categories in the sidebar. Categories, however will not show up without having at least 1 post in them.

what i was asking is that since i have signed up with 1&1 and wordpress bloging is one of the benefits,do i have to go through 1&1,bacuse i don’t see any options that will let me show all categories in the control panel

I think it’s unclear what you are referring to when you say “control panel”.

I see you have a WP blog at your site and you have one category showing….Ubuntu

If you want more categories showing on your WP blog, then you need to create them in you admin area, but they will not show on the front of your blog until you have at least one thing posted to a category. So….you could have 20 categories created in your WP admin area, but none will show until you post something in the category….then the only ones that will show are the ones you have at least one post in.

You don’t have to do anything with 1&1 as far as WordPress goes…you have everything you need. If you are not talking about WordPress and are maybe talking about your hosting account control panel…then you would need to talk with 1&1.

I believe that the 1and1 WP blog option is very limited. Only a few themes are offered and these can’t be edited (I may be wrong but this is what others have said).

I believe the only way to access the blog and make changes (if they are allowed) is via the 1and1 control panel. If that panel allows you to edit a theme then you could make the changes you want. Otherwise you need to switch to a normal WP install (where you FTP the file up to your webspace and install it yourself. You will then be free to edit the theme as you wish. I am running a WP install on 1&1 (www.obscure.co.uk) and it works fine.

Yes, and hopefully, if you used 1&1’s one-click installation of WordPress (rather than installing WordPress on your own), then I hope you haven’t put in too many posts. If you leave the 1&1.com installation, you lose your posts – they don’t allow you to have access to your database to back up your stuff.
