Catch 22: I can't stop spammers posting to my blogs

    Thank you for your help in advance.

    I’m getting like 600 spammers posting to my blogs per day.

    This is a different problem but is relevent background:
    I had to uninstall Akismet because hackers have infiltrated my website through this plug-in. I have been unable to solve this. And, I can’t reinstall Akismet because vestiges of the plug-in remain in a folder in my PHP, seeminglynon-deletable.

    I have unchecked the box in settings/discussions “allow people pulled to post comments on new articles” but the spammers are posting to old blog posts.

    Any idea how to stop this?
