On 6 different WordPress sites (all, with different modules), I relied on user opinions and installed Hummingbird.
Everything went well during installation and configuration, even if I didn’t find any real difference in performance on the screen).
But when I wanted to access new sites a few days later (and it did the same on the 6 sites), impossible to access the BackOffiche of WordPress. Error500. I struggled as it is not allowed to be able to access the site again.
So I will not put more than one star.
It may be suitable for extra competent users, but for the lamba user that I am it is not suitable at all.
And when I add to that that the performance gain was not at all, but then not at all at the rendezvous, I strongly recommend this module to beginners.
Too many possible adjustments causing too many potential errors (and easy to cause unintentionally without going back.
And at the slightest error, it does not forgive.
I will not compete in the wrong place by talking about another module with childlike simplicity and quite real efficiency (it may not be the best, I don’t know, but in anyway, on the 6 sites, it went extremely well and the sites are performing according to the tests I did).
So, if you start in Hummingbird, I recommend that you cover up with full backups (database + FILES) because if it freezes, it’s dead.
If you know what you’re doing, I think it must be a very good tool, but far too complex and risky for me.

    Hello @jgd24

We really apriciate your time for writting this review. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t like our plugin, although I see you have not openned a thread in our forums so we could assist you and resove this issue.

The 500 erorr is usually happneing when there are not enough resourses on a server or when there is a conflcit with a plugin. If this happenned after few days, if there were an update on your site it could conflci with another plugin.

If the site was not accesble due to the Hummingbird plugin, a solution was simply to go to /wp-content/plugins/ directory, locate the wp-hummingbird folder and rename it. This would deactivate the plugin on your site and reset optimization applied on your site. So there is no need for a backup to be made on your site.

You’ve mentioned that the plugin worked extrememly well om your 6 sites, so really sorry to see that you’ve rated the plugin with 1 star. There is an option in Asset Optimization to have basic compression only, if you wish not to enabling advanced mode as this will require some time to set it up right.

If you still have a 500 error on your site we will be happy to assits. Please open a new thread in our forums.

    Have a good day!

    Cheers,
    Nastia
