Catalog displays a full size image

Thanks for reaching out!

I recently experienced that not all images on the catalogue pages have the same display size. If I add a new product, it’s picture will be shown full size in all catalogue pages (shop, widgets etcera). And this only happens when I upload a new image to the media library, not if I use an existing one.

I understand that the images on your catalog pages do not have the same display size even after setting their configuration via the Customizer.

Is this happening to all of your products or a specific product only? If you could provide us with the link to your issue, that will help us further troubleshoot.

Furthermore, i’d like to understand your site properly, can you please share your System Status Report, that will help us further troubleshoot.

You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

The problem is occurring with all images that I have uploaded after August 21st. Existing images are displayed normally, even when linked to a new product.

If you follow the link as I attached in the opening post, you will see the problem at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the reply and for sharing the screenshots!

I am looking at your site and I can indeed see that not all images are being rendered at the same size.

If you have just recently changed your thumbnail size under your Customizer, please make sure to Regenerate shop thumbnails from your page WooCommerce → Status → Tools.

If the Customizer options don’t help, please look into forcing thumbnail image sizes through alternative means as proposed here: https://woocommerce.com/document/image-sizes-theme-developers/

For reference, adding the custom hook snippet below from the resource above will enable you to change thumbnail images to a 150x150px scale.

I did not change the thumbnail size. Thumbnail settings are still correct. Despite I have not made any changes I have regenerated thumbnails with no effect.

If I change the thumbnail sizes in the customizer, all thumbnails are affected in the preview, except the one showing in full size. To be clear: I have not published any new products yet as their images will also be shown full size (tested and reversed it).

I have also verified the postmeta entries for the pictures. This is what it looks like:

Apparently the woocommerce_thumbnail size is defined correctly.

As I wrote before, the correct thumbnail size is present in the uploads folder.

All steps as suggested in your post relate to thumbnail sizes. However, looking at the HTML, the problem doesn’t seem to be the size of the thumbnails. It does not display thumbnails at all (for new additions), it’s showing the picture at full size.

I guess I need to know where the HTML is actually generated as this seems to be the only part that goes wrong.

I have rolled back the Elementor plugin to v 3.7.1 without effect as well.

Update: updated OceanWP to latest version. Rolled back WC to 6.8.1. Both without effect. Tried by adding a new product and uploading a new picture.

Update: I have rolled back WC to 6.7.0 and the problem is gone. Updated to 6.8.0 and the problem is back. Reviewed the changelog and 1 change draw my attention: Update – Remove legacy image sizes #33772. Unfortunately the link to github is not very helpful. Should the github page contain more details about this fix? I don’t see it.

What has changed in v6.8.0 that might cause the problem?

The changes are merged into 6.8.0 from what I see on Github.

As per the pull request, duplicate sizes like shop_thumbnail were removed.

I am still unable to understand why the sizes are being output as full on your site.

Are you able to replicate this behaviour on a default theme like 2022 – when you upload a new image for a product? Be sure to regenerate the thumbnails once.

Still don’t know what caused the problem, but a recent update of the WooCommerce plug-in finally solved my issue. In the meantime I had updated the WC plug-in a few times locally, but without success. So I’m glad this is over and I can update my live site.
