Hello, i’ve noticed that when my customers are using the cash on delivery payment method the order status stays Pending. Therefore, I don’t receive any email about new orders. What should I do to fix this?

  • Hi there @chriskal11

Correct, orders using Cash on Delivery are set to Processing until payment is made upon delivery of the order by you or your shipping method. Linked here is the related documentation.

To help you further, I’d like to understand more about your setup.

Could you share a screenshot of the payment methods screen, please? https://snipboard.io/ is a good (online) tool of choice for sharing it here.

Also, could you send me a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

Once you’ve done that, you can paste the text in https://gist.github.com/, or https://pastebin.com/, and feel free to change/remove your site URL in the report for privacy reasons.

You can paste the Gist/Pastebin link here in your reply, once you have that.

    Thanks!

    Hello @chriskal11

The issue you’re experiencing is not typical for WooCommerce. By default, WooCommerce should send an email notification for all new orders, regardless of the payment method. If you’re not receiving these emails for orders placed with the Cash on Delivery method, it may be due to a configuration issue or a conflict with another plugin.

Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    • Check your email settings: Navigate to WooCommerce > Settings > Emails. Ensure the ‘New Order’ email is enabled, and the recipient’s email address is correct.
    • Check your spam/junk folder: Sometimes, emails might be redirected to your spam or junk folder. If you find any WooCommerce emails there, be sure to mark them as ‘Not Spam’ to prevent future emails from being filtered out.
    • Plugin conflict: Deactivate all other plugins except WooCommerce and see if the issue persists. If it resolves, reactivate the plugins one by one to identify the conflicting plugin.
    • Update WooCommerce: Ensure you’re running the latest version of WooCommerce. Updates often include bug fixes that might resolve your issue.
    • SMTP Plugin: If WooCommerce emails are not sending properly, it could be due to your server configuration. In this case, you might need to use an SMTP plugin to send emails.

I would also encourage you to check our Email FAQ, which is a great resource for narrowing down what could be causing this behavior.

If you’ve gone through these steps and are still experiencing the issue, please reach back out to us with the following:

    • System Status Report: navigate to WooCommerce → Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support.
    • Fatal Error log: Share a copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce → Status → Logs.

You could copy and paste your reply here or paste it via https://gist.github.com/ and send the link here. This will help us investigate further and provide you with a more accurate solution.

    Thanks!

    Hi @djaber6194,

Yes, your issue is likely due to using a localhost. When you’re working on a local environment, emails sent from your WooCommerce store may not actually get sent out because your local server isn’t set up to send emails.

I would encourage you to check our Email FAQ, which is a great resource for narrowing down what could be causing this behavior.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
