We recently upgraded to PHP 8.0, then started having issues with our WooCommerce Checkout/Cart experience. Prior to this everything worked as expected. Now when a customer clicks “place order” and it is successful the Checkout Page just scrolls to the top and does not state “order success” (like it used to) and the product is still showing in the Cart – thus the customer thinks that the order was not placed and clicks the “place order” button again. We are using WordPress v. 6.1.1 and WooCommerce Plugin v. 7.1.1 (everything is updated for Theme & Plugins). Please Advise.

Thank you for the quick response! Yes, I tested it with the default theme and also tested it with the other plugins disabled. Cart/Checkout still does not display the expected ‘success order’ message upon a successful order and it still scrolls to the top and keeps the product in the cart (after a successful order happens). Please advise.

Just to confirm that you have switched to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled, and still the error persists?

This is quite strange. Can you please provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs?

I have done all of that again…This time I was able to tell that the Code Snippet provided on your site (years ago) for “send coupons used in an order by email” was not PHP 8.0 compatible. I reviewed that code snippet with the current code snippet you now have on that page and see that it is totally different. I deactivated that old code snippet and the cart/checkout functions as expected. I found the new code snippet here: https://woocommerce.com/document/send-coupons-used-in-an-order-by-email/
Before I add that to my site, please confirm that it is PHP 8.0 compatible?

Hi+ I tested the code snippet on a test version of our site as I didn’t want it to break the site again….It did not break the site, but it does NOT show the “coupon code used” in the email we get when a customer uses a coupon (like the old version of the code snippet used to do). Since this new version of the code snippet claims it will show the coupon code used in the Woocommerce emails we get but does not function as expected, I’m not sure how to proceed. Please advise how to proceed since this issue has now morphed. Thank you.

Meanwhile, I copied the code snippet to my personal site running on the default Storefront theme and it is working as expected. This is the message I got after an order with a coupon was placed:

On your test site, can you please try to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled and see if this works?

If this did not resolve the issue, please provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

Hi+ There is no fatal error on the code snippet. It does not break the site. It claims to show the Coupon Code the customer used in the New Order Email sent to us. However, the email did not show the Coupon Code Used when we tested it, only the coupon discounted amount. We need to be able to see which of our coupons was used so we know which ad campaign is working. The old version of the code snippet did exactly that and worked fine until we updated to PHP 8.0… No screenshot to give as the New Order Email looks exactly the same with or without the Code Snippet Active when using a valid Coupon Code. I am fully aware of ‘developer’ level documentation as that is what I do. I am simply telling you that the new code snippet provided by you does not do what you claim it does (and that the old code snippet previously provided by you did do what you claim it was supposed to do). Since “you” (aka: WooCommerce) are the one(s) that are claiming this specific code snippet will show the coupon code the customer used when they bought the item, I thought you *might* want to know that it does NOT provide that information as you *think* it does…FYI.

I understand the code is not working with PHP 8.0 on your end. I am not a developer, I’ve seen an alternative solution (A pretty old) created for the Avada child theme here. Can you please check if this works for you?

Thank you for the suggestion… Yes, that old Code Snippet to display the Coupon Code Used on the New Order Email is what I used prior to upgrading to PHP 8.0 and that is what caused the Cart/Checkout not clearing issue (as it is not PHP 8 compatible). Once I removed that Code Snippet the Cart/Checkout worked as expected. Then I looked for an updated version of that Code Snippet (which I provided in this thread) after that I discovered that the new version while it is PHP 8 compatible, it does not show the Coupon Code Used in the New Order Email (as it claims) and since I provided that earlier in this thread I was simply updating this thread so that others would not expect it to do what it claims. I expect that those who wrote that new Code Snippet should work to fix that issue – but that is not this forum and you should reach out to them in their forum.

Hi there,

I’ve tested your code above on PHP 8.1.9 and it does, in fact, appear to work on a test installation running only WooCommerce 7.2.2 and Storefront theme. The coupon is included in the outgoing email

Note your code will only show the first coupon added, if more than one coupon is added, some will be lost. I’m sure you’re aware of this though.

We’ve also retested the developer document snippet at this link and can confirm that it is working for us on the Storefront theme with WooCommerce 7.2.2 and PHP 8.1.9. It does not interfere with the cart emptying.

We’re testing here with standard coupons and no other extras. Is it possible that something on your site is interfering with the woocommerce_thankyou action or the $order->get_used_coupons()? This may be caused by a conflict with the theme or another plugin.

This is a fairly complex development topic and outside the scope of our normal support. I’m going to leave it open for a bit to see if anyone is able to chime in to help you out.
