    Jetpack Mechanic ??

No, I’m afraid that’s not possible. Carousel is only triggered for galleries, so when you insert a single image into one of your posts, the Carousel libraries and the meta data needed to display the Carousel view aren’t added to your image.

This feature was suggested by a few other Jetpack users in the past, so we’ll definitely consider adding the option if this request becomes popular.

If so, I’ll post again here to let you know about our progress.

    Hi Jeremy
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I look forward to seeing this feature.

I was also looking for this feature. My workaround is inserting a gallery with just one image in it.

I just wanted to let you all know that this feature will be added to Jetpack 4.5, scheduled to be released next week!

That’s great news Jeremy. I look forward to it.

    Hello Jeremy,

I was looking forward to the lightbox for single image coming to Jetpack 4.5. But for now I don’t see any change on my website. (assuming the update dropped already? I think yesterday, right?)

Is there something I need to do in order to make this work or will it retroactively update all single images on my blog? (which I guess doesn’t work for me)

    Thank you!

Update: I think I found it. You have to set your images linked to ‘attachment page’. If you somehow manually changed this in older posts, you have to manually change it again.

I have experimented and it seems to trigger if the image is linked to the attachment page, not if it is linked to the media file. I think that does mean going back and manually editing each image unless there is a plugin for that? It also appears to take the title from the image not from the caption so you need to make sure the title is what you want.

I have an example here on a demo site where the title is just the image filename because I haven’t changed it. https://demo2.barmouthwales.uk/portfolio/portrait-of-paul-nash-wartime-artist/

Apart from needing to edit the images that are already on, it works for me as I am only just setting up a new site.

Thx for experimenting, Karen! I found out the same thing at the same time. ??

@jeroendanckers As @karenyoung1 mentioned, the Carousel view will only be available if the image links are set to “attachment page”, not to “media file”.

We’ve made that choice on purpose, as there are already other plugins that change the behaviour of single images when set to link to a media file.

I think that does mean going back and manually editing each image unless there is a plugin for that?

That’s correct. WordPress’ default is to link to attachment pages though, so hopefully you won’t have to edit too many posts!

It also appears to take the title from the image not from the caption so you need to make sure the title is what you want.

It should take both values if you’ve set both.

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Thx for implementing this option – it’s great!
