I’ve noticed that in any post prior to 2022, a click on the gallery image will not bring up the photo carousel (this works in all posts dated 2022 and later) nor will it bring up a larger image. Basically, nothing happens when you click on an image.

I am using WP theme Twenty Ten. I tried Twenty Twenty Five and the same problem occurs. Tried disabling plug-ins and no change. I have not changed the way I enter the photos or my theme since I started the blog. Jetpack says the carousel is activated (makes sense since newer posts work fine). I don’t think I’m using a caching plug-in but I wouldn’t know if I was. Finally, I checked my PHP setting on the site’s CPanel and it shows 7.3 for the system PHP and 8.3 for the domain (again, if this were the problem I would think the carousel would not work for any post).

How can I fix this. Thanks

Hey @jabster99 – could you please share us the URL of one old post where the carousel doesn’t work and URL of one new post where the carousel work to help us check the issue?

Here’s a link to a post on December 30, 2021 where the carousel is not working – https://jaboart.com/sunsets-12_30_21/

And here is a link to a post on March 8, 2022 that is the first that is working (as are all the newer posts)- https://jaboart.com/sky-odds-and-ends-3_8_22/

I notice that single images do not enlarge on clicking, as in this post – https://jaboart.com/happy-new-year/

    Hi @jabster99,

Thanks for providing those examples and for your patience. I’ve investigated this issue further and can see that although everything appears to be properly configured, there seems to be a difference in how the carousel is interacting with older posts.

I’ve created an internal ticket to have our developers look into this. I’ll keep this thread updated with any findings or potential solutions.

Could you confirm whether this issue affects all posts from before 2022, or just specific ones?

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Hi there, @jabster99,

Do you have updates about that? Do you still need help? It looks like our team wasn’t able to reproduce the issue anymore. Do you still see it at your end?

We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to ensure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!

My carousel issue has been resolved thanks to an email from Jetpack which I will paste below (tl:dr = the image block was set when it should have been set as gallery block):

    Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to Jetpack support about using the carousel for images. I’ve taken a look at your site and images, and I think I have determined what is preventing the carousel from working in certain scenarios.

For the carousel feature to work, it needs to be enabled in your Jetpack →  Settings →  Writing, and the images should be in a Gallery or Tiled Gallery. In your post from March 8, 2022, the images are utilizing the Gallery Block, which is why the carousel is enabled.

The post from December 30th and the single image is using the Image block, so the carousel does not open. For your post from December 30th, you can put the images into a Gallery block, which should allow the carousel to work. For single images, there’s an option to have it open in a lightbox.

To make a single image open in its own lightbox:

    1. Select the image?
    2. With the image selected, click on the?link icon?in the block editor toolbar:
      Annotation on 2024-12-20 at 09-44-46.png
    3. Select the?Expand on click?option
      ?

Hope this helps! If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

    Best regards,
