Edit: The dev reacted to my review and to an issue I had with the plugin quickly and was able to resolve the problem. I would highly recommend the plugin now. It will save a lot of time setting up and maintaining your website’s SEO.

It does a create meta description from reading your content out, but it doesn’t leave a free space between title and following paragraph text.
    Example
    Title: “This is my title”
Paragraph: “How do you like it?”

… will create a meta description like this “This is my titleHow do you like it?”

… and this can actually hurt your SEO.

    Hi @picturebreeze ,

    Thanks for your review.

This situation seems to be strange, because the plugin generates meta description from post excerpt or post content only. It doesn’t take the post title. Please see this screenshot:

Hi Andre, most likely it’s an incompatibility caused by your Theme. Probably it is Not following the WordPress coding standards & best practices and this is causing the incompatibility issue with Slim SEO. Please, Try using another Theme in a “Staging environment” in order to Check if the issue still persist after the Theme change. I recommend you a TOP quality theme like “Suki”, “GeneratePress” or “Kadence Theme”.

Thanks for replying but it doesn’t have anything to do with a specific theme. I actually did use Kadence on the first site.
Now I’ve installed the plugin again on an Oxygen powered site and the result is exactly the same.

    Here’s an example:

    Heading 1: Boho Picnic
    Heading 2: Puerto Vallarta
Text Paragraph: Your romantic sunset picnic
    Heading 3: Our Service
Text Paragraph: Hello and welcome to Boho Picnic, where we strive to provide a wonderful experience to you and …

And this is what the plugin generates on the homepage:

<meta name="description" content="Boho PicnicPuerto VallartaYour romantic sunset picnic Our serviceHello and welcome to Boho Picnic, where we strive to provide a wonderful experience to you and ">

    Hi @picturebreeze ,

Thanks for your reply. I’ll check with Oxygen again. We did the integration with Oxygen, but maybe there’s some issues in recent updates. I’ll check it and update the plugin as soon as I can.

As a stated above the exact same issue appeared on a regular WordPress installation (no Oxygen) running the Kadence theme.
The theme is not the problem here.

    Hi Andre,

As you have stated in your previous comment, the issue is happening when you are using “Kadence” and also when you are using “Oxygen”, so, it seems like the theme is not the problem here. Something else should be causing this issue. Would be great if you can let me know the name of all the plugins that your are using in your websites, so that I can check one by one in my testing website and verify if the issue is caused by a conflict between “Slim SEO” and one of the plugins you are using.

I’m Not part of the “Slim SEO” team, but I would love to help here trying to discover what is causing the issue ??

These are the plugins I had enabled on the Kadence themed WP site. Well, plus Slim SEO, of course.

    Advanced Custom Fields
    Antispam Bee
CMP – Coming Soon & Maintenance Plugin
Duplicate Post Page Menu & Custom Post Type
Kadence Blocks – Gutenberg Blocks for Page Builder Features
    Kadence Starter Templates
    Maps Block for Gutenberg
    OMGF
    UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore
    WP Booking System

However none of these plugins were enabled on the Oxygen powered site were the issue was exactly the same.

In fact, I have not seen any site where Slim SEO worked as it’s supposed to. Maybe you can point me to one so i can check your meta descriptions?

Hi Andre, thank you so much for your reply with the list of plugins you are using :). Sorry for asking you again two more details that I forgot to ask in my previous comment. I also leave here some links to websites using “Slim SEO” so that you can check the meta descriptions.

1 – Which cache plugin are you using ?

2 – Which “Web Server” are you using: “Nginx”, “Apache” or “LiteSpeed Web Server”

I’m Not a wordpress expert. I’m Not even a developer, just an average user, but I think this information can be helpful for the “Slim SEO” developer “Anh Tran” to be able to find the issue and fix it.

    <——>

Below some sites with Slim SEO so you can check the meta descriptions. Like I said above, I’m Not an Expert, so please, let me know if something with my Meta tags it is wrong:

    – This is one website that I’m working on but still is Not ready. I’m using “Slim SEO” so you can check the meta tags –>?https://modista.xyz/

    – This is my “Testing Website” that I use exclusively to Test plugins & themes. Here I also have Slim SEO activated –>?https://tpbest.xyz/

    – The official Slim SEO website –>?https://wpslimseo.com/??

The List of plugins I’m using:

    – LiteSpeed Cache
    – PhastPress
    – Perfmatters
    – OMGF
    – Novashare
    – Slim SEO
    – Stackable – Gutenberg Blocks (Premium)
    – Suki Pro
    – UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore

    Hosting Server:
    – My Shared Hosting is using “LiteSpeed Web Server”

    Wordpress Theme:
    – Suki

    <——>??

Thanks again for your help, and sorry for asking you all these details ??

I’m not using any cache plugin for now since I’m still working on those sites. Web server is Apache.

Your site examples look a little weird in regards to meta tags. Both sites don’t have a

    <meta property="description" content="...">

tag. They only have the og (open graph) tags for social media. And your second site example even has those og tags double.

Andre, I have installed one by one all the plugins that you are using with your “Kadence Theme” based website, I even installed the Kadence theme longside all that plugins and I have Not been able to replicate your issue. Would be interesting to know exactly what is causing your issue with the <meta name=”description” content=”Boho PicnicPuerto VallartaYour romantic…….. “>

Related to my sites not showing the <meta property=”description” content=”…”>, if you look/search carefully into the source code you will see that they both are showing the <meta name=”description” content=”…”/>.

Related to the “og tags” being duplicated in the “tpbest.xyz” website, this was because the plugin “Novashare (sharing buttons plugin)” was adding the “og tags” and also “Slim SEO” was adding their “og tags”. I have already fixed this issue disabling this functionality in the “Novashare” plugin.

Anyway, I hope the “Slim SEO” developer can find the root of the issue you are having with the plugin.

    All the Best.

Thanks for trying to help. If I get a chance tomorrow, I’ll make a fresh WordPress install with the default sample content and the default theme, and NO additional plug-in except Slim SEO.
Then we’ll see how the created meta tags will look like.

    Hi @picturebreeze ,

I’ve fixed the issue with no spaces in version 3.6.1. Please try again and let me know if you still see the bug.

The problem was that Oxygen doesn’t separate HTML tags with spaces (or newlines), so when trying to remove HTML tags (like <h1>Heading 1</h1><p>Content</p>), there are no spaces between words. I’ve updated the way the plugin trim HTML tags, which now works better in this case.

Please update and take a look.

    Thanks,
    Anh
