captions gone awry

I just upgraded to the latest requested version, using the WordPress installer robot. My site has been crazy ever since. It doesn’t seem to handle a lot of pics. I wrote my blog, added pics, and then went back and added captions to each photo. The all the ensuing blog text got sucked into one of the captions. I don’t know enough about code to know what tag got pissed off. Delete and start over? Also, my website columns are skewed–I used to have an icon in the upper left with menu options, and all this stuff has been shoved to the bottom. Also, my latest blog is now crashing into an older one; the text problem is infecting the previous entry.
