• Hello! I am (to be blunt!) an unskilled WordPress user. I need to place a caption under the header’s picture. I have tried going to Media and adding the caption in the Caption box (many times), to no avail. I’ve also deleted the picture, and uploaded it again, and re-added the caption. Nothing seems to work. Looked on other machines, phone etc. Really at a loss. And don’t even know where to look at the code for the header! Any help appreciated.
Most online resources merely repeat the obvious standard method of adding a caption, as i have followed above.

  • The header banner is a special theme feature (as opposed to any image inserted into a page or post). And your theme Twenty Twelve was not coded to display the image’s caption below the banner.

And don’t even know where to look at the code for the header! Any help appreciated.

It’s one of those things that if you must ask…

Also, note that if you edit the theme files directly and ever update the theme, you’ll lose your edits. A way around that is to create a child theme.

But, personally, I’m too lazy to bother going the coding route to do this one thing. I’d just hack the caption into the image itself and be done with it ??

Thanks, George, that’s very helpful. I think I will just put the credit on the pic as you suggest.
I still don’t understand why the caption doesn’t show up anywhere (and possibly I wasn’t clear that it’s not showing up at all, let alone where I want it to).

    Thanks again!

why the caption doesn’t show up

it would need some coding to implement some of that code into the header of your theme…

Thanks, Michael, I really appreciate it. That will def. help. Though I am a neophyte in WordPress, I usually find that once I get oriented I can achieve what I need through a hack and this will help that for sure!
