    Hi there,

A couple months ago I posted about how when people tried to sign up for my newsletter, no matter what they typed in for the built-in MailPoet recaptcha, it always said they were wrong. I finally just used Google recaptcha instead because I couldn’t figure it out.

The shape of the Google recaptcha is really obnoxious, it’s too big for the container and makes my site look messy. Today I switched back to the built-in MailPoet recaptcha to see if the problem was ever resolved. I cleared cache.

Now it looks like there’s a whole new problem. Even though I did NOT choose to disable recaptcha, it’s allowing people to just enter their email address and sign up automatically, with zero recaptcha happening at all. The point of recaptcha is to reduce spam so this is a problem right? Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Thanks,
    Claire

    Hi there,

    Thanks for contacting us.

After checking, I was unable to reproduce the issue: https://d.pr/i/E1EnE1.

Could you please provide us with a screencast so that we can see what you are describing?

If you don’t have screen recording software, please use one of the following online services:

Oh good! Is it possible that since I’ve tried to “test” signing up so many times using my own email addresses, that now it doesn’t ask me to put in the captcha anymore because it knows I’m already signed up?

Any thoughts on what would be a good way for me to continue testing things in the future? Do I need to delete myself off my subscriber list every time I need to do testing again?

    Hi @thedetoureffect,

It’s possible that the repeated attempts to sign up with your email address would lead to the system no longer asking for a captcha. It could also be due to various reasons such as browser caching, cookies and sessions, or IP recognition … when the system determines that you are a legitimate user and that you are not a bot.

Since we are unable to replicate it, in your case, this is not a technical problem on the site. You can try deleting the account and try again in private browser or when you are outside, say at a place different from your usual location.

I will also mark this ticket as solved for now, but you can still reply here if you have updates.
