• Hello, I’m experiencing an onboarding issue with the built-in CAPTCHA.

    Environment:
    WordPress 6.4.3
    Mailpoet 4.42.1

    Issue:

    • Mailpoet built-in captcha presents visual letters.
    • Visual letters are entered by user and submitted.
    • Error is received “Letters do not match.”
    • User listens to audio captcha, audio is different from visual letters.
    • User enters audio letters – captcha confirmation works.

    Observations:
Built-in Captcha contains a ‘refresh button’. I’ve observed the audio captcha always reads the visual captcha that is ‘queued up next’ (if you listen to the captcha – then refresh the visual captcha – the previous audio will match with the newly refreshed visual captcha. The misalignment is always be one (with audio in the lead).

The following observations are consistently reproducible (on my end). I have cleared device caches. I have cleared web server caches. The following list outlines browser scenarios which have problems and which do not.

    • iOS Safari ?
    • iOS Chrome ?
    • iOS Firefox Focus ?
    • iOS Brave Browser ?
    • Desktop Browsers (all) ?
    • Is the ‘mismatch between visual and audio captcha’ a documented issue?
    • Is there a documented fix?
    • What might the solution to this be – it seems like a mailpoet server issue rather than a local WordPress installation fix.
      • Am I wrong?

    Hello there @xizor,

Thank you for bringing the issues you’re facing with the built-in CAPTCHA in MailPoet to our attention. We acknowledge the detailed description and observations you’ve provided, which will prove beneficial in helping us understand the situation better.

    To address your concerns:

    • We have not encountered any similar reports regarding this issue. It’s a unique case, and we appreciate your assistance in identifying potential areas for improvement in our service.
    • I’ve just tested the built-in CAPTCHA on my end, and it is working as expected.

Given the unusual nature of your issue, I recommend conducting a plugin conflict test to determine if any conflicts might be causing the misbehavior you’re encountering. Our guide on testing for plugin conflicts can be found here: How to Test for Plugin Conflicts.

In the meantime, while we investigate this issue closely, I encourage you to consider setting up Google reCAPTCHA as an alternative. For your convenience, here’s a helpful guide on how to do this: Add Google reCAPTCHA to Your Website’s Forms.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Hi there @xizor,

Thanks for reaching back out. I had a look at your website and it looks as though you now have invisible reCaptcha up and running on your sign-up form, is that correct? If so, is that working fine for you, or are you still experiencing issues?

If you are still seeing issues, are you able to create a staging site for us to test in a conflict-test environment? You can use a free plugin like WP Staging to create a staging copy of your site, where we could disable all plugins except MailPoet, and revert your theme to a default theme like Twenty Twenty, and then test on the iOS platform.

Please do let us know if you are able to create such a site for testing purposes and if so, what the URL is.
