I’ve created a site using twentyseventeen theme (it was the first one offered and I liked it so didn’t even look elsewhere!)
For some reason when I change some type to bold it changes all the letter i’s to capitals!!?! rIght in the mIddle of words. It doesn’t appear like that in the preview, only when the updated page is viewed.
Anyone else know if this is a common issue?

Is wondering if there’s another theme that’s almost the same that might correct this. I’m scared to try a simple theme change in case it causes a lot of changes I then need to correct, in past experience the theme changes are never quite one-click!

Please provide a link to a page on your site where we can see this. Thanks.i

I’ve actually just found a result when searching further. It appears that it’s not really a capital I, but the font itself blurs the dot in so it appears to be a capital. I edited the style.css (line 123), changing the font-weight from 700 to 600 and now it’s far less bold it appears as a lower case again!

That’s what I suspected. If you’re using a font that doesn’t have a 700 weight, the browser will “bolden” the next smallest it has and that often has poor results.

Yes, quite a pleasing fix actually to just dial down the boldness!

Where are the fonts actually set? My client who I actually put the site together for doesn’t like the sizing of headers, and how they appear different in edit mode to when they are actually live. Are fonts all set in style.css? Is there nowhere more wysiwyg?

scan style.css for “font-family” to see what fonts are in use. “outside” fonts are probably pulled in via the theme’s functions.php, but they’re enabled in style.css.
