I am new to WordPress and have been following tutorials on how to migrate my site to a remote server from my local computer. I used MAMP originally to create my WordPress site. I used the theme Twenty Fourteen and have installed the following plugins: addthis, contact form 7, easy table, events manager, flamingo, jetpak, nextend image magnifier, simple social icons, and wpuntexturize.

The project I am working on is for a website update and my client’s old site is currently running on the web. My hosting company has set up a test page through cPanel for me to migrate my site to until I get final approval from my client to replace the old site on the current domain. The test page can be found here: dockofthebaymarina.com

I already installed WordPress 3.9.1 and set up a database on my remote server’s cPanel. I exported my local host database and updated my database information in the wp-config.php file. I used Dreamweaver to perform the search and replace function to update my URLs in this new database. I uploaded a copy of my wp-content folder (themes, plugins and uploads) from my computer directly to my cPanel. I do not have access to FTP but can contact my hosting company again to see if they can provide that information to me – if this is a better method. At the time, the support guy I talked to told me I didn’t need FTP if I was using cPanel.

My problem is when I import my edited .sql file to my database using phpMyAdmin on cPanel. Whenever I refresh my browser to view my site, the WordPress Installation page keeps showing up instead of my site. I checked my database connection and it is working correctly. I just can’t see my site.

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? There must be something I’m missing. Thanks!

The tutorials I have been using are Migrating WordPress on lyndatraining.com and Moving WordPress Codex.

  • In the wp_config.php that is on your server, can you double check the table prefix?
Perhaps the new database doesn’t match the old one.

Another thing to check is to go to your phpMyadmin and double check the entries in the wp_option table.
The home and site_url both must be correct. Perhaps one of these is wrong?

Finally, just as a precaution, I would use this tool
    https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
to do the search and replace within your database.
This will update all of the info you need, including widgets etc…

Thanks Christine! Yes my table prefixes were not correct and that’s what was causing the problem. I fixed them and was able to get my site on the web. I really appreciate the help. ??
