can't view pages

  • I am a student using wordpress 3.7.1 and am currently experiencing a fundamental problem. Once my pages are published I cannot view them, they simply 404. I’d be inclined to think this problem is only happening to me but a few of my classmates are experiencing a similar issue.
    Could someone please shed some light on this problem for us ?

    –Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting and renaming your WordPress .htaccess file. If that works, then try reading Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure again. If clearing your Permalinks does not alleviate the issue, this could be attributed to anything from a web server configuration to a bad WordPress install.
