• When I click on this page I get the following msg:

    Service Unavailable

“The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Additionally, a 503 Service Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

When I go in to wp admin to resolve issue and click on the page to edit, it takes me back to the homepage. I have tried duplicating the page but no luck.

    Any suggestions welcomed.

    Thanks

  • Hi kwatson020785,

The 503 error is a general server-side error, and it may have more to do with your hosting than anything else. I recommend contacting your hosting support and letting them know about this issue and help you fix it.

Alternatively, you can check this article to know more about this error and how to fix it: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-503-service-unavailable-error-in-wordpress/

Hope this helps, and your issue is resolved soon!

I would normally agree, but the evidence does not add up. Requesting “/work/hiddencosts” (no trailing slash) results in a WP maintenance notice before a redirect to the URL with a trailing slash happens, which then gives us the Service Unavailable error. And the rest of your site apparently works correctly. It’s odd to get a 503 response for a specific page, a 503 response is typically due to the entire site having a server-side issue.

Is there anything unusual about this page? Does it make an unusually complex DB query or something similar that demands a lot of server resource?

If by chance this is due to WP and not a specific server issue, it’s likely due to a problem theme or plugin. As a test, deactivate all plugins and switch to a default Twenty* theme. If the page becomes accessible now, then you’re getting closer to identifying the cause. Restore your normal theme and plugins, one at a time, testing after each. When the problem returns, the last activated module would be the cause.

If deactivating plugins and switching themes does not resolve the error, then perhaps it really is a server-side issue. It’s then likely something your host would need to help you with. As a wild guess, maybe your server’s modSecurity configuration needs adjustment.
