Can't use Latvian in widgets area

  • As soon as I enter enything with Latvian charactgers in widgets (https://sitename.com/wp-admin/widgets.php), they disappear from the web page [for example, in Text (Arbitrary text or HTML) widget]. I have to use HTML entities instead of Latvian letters. Please improve this.
    WP 3.0.1, Linux server, UTF-8 charset in MySQL.
