• hi,

I want to upload a theme I downloaded… but it wants my FTP creds.. I don’t have a domain, I don’t have webhosting set up.. I’m just working in localhost as I’m just learning WP.. why can’t I upload a theme to the dashboard in just the local environment?

    thank you….

same thing when you want to update WP… it wants your FTP info… ??

You Probably dont have the user permissions, what is your local development setup?

When WordPress asks for FTP its mean it does not have the permissions to write to the disk.

Just extract the plugin directory in the wp_content>plugins

    hi hyperionstudios….

thank you for your response… how can I not have permissions to write to my own computer HD? ;~)) (not sure what you mean by “user permissions”…)

I’ve had this website set up in my local env for months… I have made changes to the CSS, etc… (have even added my own JS code..)

my setup: PHP env that came with my MacBook Pro out of the box (& have “regular” PHP sites set up too..) mySQL that I installed myself.. np connecting to db…

    thank you…

I don’t want to even upload a theme now.. just install one that appears in Admin.. but, again: it wants my FTP info.. this is extremely annoying.. why can’t you just work and build your site in localhost and then upload WHEN YOU ARE READY?? I mean testing a site/changes/edits in localhost and then uploading to FTP only once you’re satisfied is…. well.. the way I have always worked.. but it seems WP system wants to transfer changes immediately to FTP… shouldn’t YOU decide when you’re ready to push your site (or edits thereof) to FTP?? I mean if I were building or editing a site for a client, I wouldn’t want WP to upload the changes immediately… I would want to test first in localhost, THEN when I’m satisfied and ready, transfer to the server….. sorry, I really don’t get this.. am getting increasingly frustrated here….

    thank you for any insights/advice/help….
