can't upload theme

  • Hello;

    I have downloaded a Theme which is in a zipped file. I have tried to upload it to my WordPress site, but I am getting an error message saying that it can’t install it properly as as style.css is missing.

    There appears to be a style sheet and a css doc in the folder so not sure what is going on.

    Any help would be gratefully received.

  • You need to make sure there is a file named style.css and it has the proper theme headers with at least the theme name filled out. Here is an example from Twentyten:

    Can I ask where you downloaded this theme from?

    Sorry to have taken so long to reply….I have put off looking at is as I am really not sure what I am doing!

    It is a themeforest theme called ‘classy’.

    Irritatingly my friend who was supposed to be helping me but whizzed through things at a speedy pace, downloaded it onto my computer and then did something in filezilla. When I log onto filezilla I can see the classy zipped folder. Not sure why it wouldn’t have the right files in it.

    In addition to the above, what I don’t understand is that there is a file names style.css within the folder and when I open it, it seems to have all the relevant info:

    So not sure why I am getting this error when I try to upload it…..am I doing this wrong?

    I am going to: Themes, Install Themes, Upload…. then searching for the zipped file and hitting upload.

    Does this make sense!
