• Very weird scenario – I can’t find the solution anywhere. I’ll try be brief:

    * GoDaddy WordPress Managed Hosting (contacted them 4 times with no solution)
    * Site previously built completely fine on this computer.
    * Log on last week to continue working on the site.
    * A few images uploaded fine, then when I tried again…
    * Uploading images causes an HTTP error.
    * Publishing changes causes a 408 timeout, or connection error.
    * Adding posts, changing featured images, certain other back end settings work fine.
    * Occurs on Firefox/Chrome/Edge, with many cookie and cache refreshes, etc.
    * Made a few user accounts and doesn’t work on any of them.

Here is where it gets weird:
    * Uploading images and publishing changes works on my cellphone and laptop (same router/modem)
    * This computer is the only one it doesn’t seem to work on
    * This computer works fine on 9 other wordpress client sites, tested them all (even another GoDaddy site)
    * GoDaddy support was able to add images and publish fine – making it seem like the installation is just fine.
    * They flushed my IP and my site, I did an ipconfig DNS flush, I unplugged and replugged everything multiple times, disabled/enabled windows firewall – still no luck.
    * Each morning, one image or one publish change might slowly leak through as successful, but it stops there.
    * When I run the Network tool on Chrome it seems to get stuck at /wp-admin/async-upload.php
    * Saving Drafts, Adding new Categories or Tags to things all seem to work fine.

…so you see my dilemma. I have ruled out plugins, internet connection, wordpress installation, server, etc.

The only thing I know to be true:
    1. It is only happening on THIS computer specifically.
    2. It is only happening on THIS wordpress site specifically.

My initial thought was I somehow was put on an ip ban or something triggered a ban on just this computer – but once again it is confusing as I can upload media and make changes on other devices on the same router/modem.

Thoughts?!?! I am at a loss here.
Site is at https://repwindowsdoors.net for reference.

Yes, computers can have MAC addresses, and they are unique. But those are physical addresses for talking over ethernet networks. IP based commmunication, like on the internet, is a horse of a different color. If you’re actually being blocked, then it is indeed based on your IP address. The web server does not know, or care, about your MAC address.

First, you’ve narrowed it down to a single computer, but you’re not narrowing it any further. There is no magic “file” that can be put on your computer to do that sort of thing.

If there was an issue on that computer, then using a different web browser would clear it up, because the issue would be confined to the browser. Browsers are solitary, they don’t interact with each other. So if you had the problem in Chrome, then you would not have it in Firefox.

Alternatively, perhaps the issue is not in the browser, nor is it on your server, but perhaps you are using some form of internet security software which is specifically blocking you from taking these actions. Turn off that security software, if you have any.

Do you use a proxy to access the internet? Check the proxy settings. Maybe you have a proxy in between you and your web server which is interfering.

Are you on WiFi? Try wired. Try plugging into a different location to access it from elsewhere. Determine whether it is that computer or the location on the internet where that computer is.

    Hi Samuel,

    Thanks for all your help.

I think the problem with deciding it’s a firewall or some other connection issue – is that I have logged on and done all commands without a problem on 9 different wordpress sites I design right now…I went through every single one again yesterday to confirm: published a page, and added multiple media files. All working perfectly fine, on all sorts of WordPress versions and assortment of plugins.

If it were a connection issue or something not related to the specific server, then I would assume the same problem would happen on all (or some other) of my wordpress installs.

You can’t really assume that. Those internet security thingies operate differently for different servers sometimes. They don’t only use the content to determine their actions.

Basically, it’s like this: It works fine on other sites, but not this one. So, there’s something special about that one site, or your computer is otherwise treating that one site specially.

For the case where it’s a problem on the site, then it’s not WordPress blocking you, it’s the hosting service, somehow. Maybe you have different .htaccess rules in there. Maybe you tried to use a security plugin, but removed it, and then it didn’t remove all of it (check for an .htaccess file in /wp-admin, BTW, shouldn’t be one there). Maybe your host is blocking IPs on a short time basis (GoDaddy has notably done that in the past).

If it’s on the computer, then it’s either in the browser in which case using a different browser would work. Or it’s not in the browser and it’s something in between the browser and the server, like a firewall, proxy, or internet security crapware.

Those are your options, really. It’s one of those, somewhere.

I am having the same problem exactly! It started randomly last week and my host “cannot replicate the issue.” I’m following this for a hopeful resolution!

I am having this same problem when I click the Select Files button. It is working exactly the same on both of my computers (both Mac). I have disabled all extensions in Chrome.

Mac Yosemite & El Capitan – Google Chrome – WordPress 5.4.3 – button works
Mac Yosemite & El Capitan – Firefox – WordPress 5.4.3 – button works

Mac Yosemite & El Capitan – Google Chrome – WordPress 4.6 – button does not work
Mac Yosemite & El Capitan – Firefox – WordPress 4.6 – button works

This makes me think it is an issue with WordPress 4.6 in Chrome on Mac.

I have the exact same problem, but I can’t save any changes I make in WordPress to the site.

I can not save changes from my laptop no matter what internet connection or proxy I use.

This IS NOT a internet problem.

It is only this site as others work just fine.

My server support has tried everything as well.

Here is the theme being used.

Hello, apoligies for not replying with my solution! Unfortunately I couldn’t find a real and applicable fix for this issue…and having another problem with godaddys wordpress hosting on another site (sftp errors), i decided to change the plan to their standard hosting and the switch in servers completely fixed the issue.

My theory is that my computer may have had an ip ban at one point and some sort of script or corrupt file on my harddrive made it unable to use wordpress uploading.

Whether thats the case or not, as i said moving the site fixed it and i havent come across this issue ever again.

Best of luck to others and thanks for the community help!

Hi i am also having a problem with my website

i just created it and it seems i cannot upload image using chrome.. but when using firefox i can. it seems weird
