For some reason only users set as Admin can upload images via the media uploader on my wordpress site. I tried updating the core to 3.9.1 and it still keeps giving this error message: “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.” For all users such as Authors, Editors etc. This is highly problematic as I don’t want everyone to have access to my dashboard settings and need contributors to the site to be able to have user roles such as Author and be able to upload images.
    Please advise!

In further review it seems the images are uploading, when Authors upload – despite the error message, but these users can’t see any images in the Media Gallery – only Admins can see the images that are uploaded, and are getting this error meesage noted above “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.” The entire media gallery window just comes up blank and no files are visible – the icon next to the drop down menu All media items just keeps spinning.

Turns out i had to re-upload WordPress files to get this to work. I downloaded a fresh copy of wordpress and uploaded everything (except the wp-content directory!!) and it all worked out fine.
