• I’m using a simple Twenty Eleven child theme. Since upgrading to 3.4.1 (and recently to 3.4.2), I’ve been unable to upload new images that weren’t in my library before the upgrades. The images seem to go into my media library, but lack the tiny visual icon in the list. When I hit “show” and then “edit,” the image appears, but I can’t insert it, either from my computer, by URL, or from the media library.

I know that there’ve been myriad posts on this subject, and I’ve tried several things, all to no avail. I’ve disabled all plug-ins and changed the permissions numbers. I’ve trashed the page and rebuilt it. Nothing seems to work. Anyone got any other suggestions? It would be much appreciated.

  • I get 403 Permission Denied for the two images above.

Krishna, what does “403 Permission Denied” mean exactly and how do I fix that? How do I even check for that because I didn’t see that error message. Should I try to resolve this with BlueHost?

https://peterkobel.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Lucy-King.jpg. That is where one of your images is referenced. It gives a 403 permission denied error. You will want to check the permissions of your wp-content folder and the wp-content/uploads folder. All folders should be set to 755 permissions. All the images should be 644. You can see this in their file manager.

TYVM, bhpress! This worked. I changed both the folder and image permissions. I know how to fix them if this happens again, but my question is, will it? Did I do something wrong that caused the permission numbers to change? Just wondering. But thanks for helping.

This should not happen again. This normally only happens if a plugins alters those folders permissions and does it wrong, or if you move your site. At least from my experience I haven’t seen anything else cause this.

Okay. That’s what happened–moved my site, with additional permalink issues. This really helped. Thanks again!
