• hi all, i just made a switch from the free WordPress.com to WordPress on my shared hosting. i am having trouble setting it up.

i started out trying to just load everything to my /public_html directory, but that didn’t work, so i made a new folder “user” and put all of the WP files into that. i started working, then decided to try put everything back right into /public_html because my new Website url bore the “/user” on the end, which would be unsuitable in the long term. anyway, the blog was now functional, except that now when in try ot upload images i get this error message:

Unable to create directory /home/hidrofit/public_html/user/wp-content/uploads/2009/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

my WordPress thinks that the “user” directory is still there. can anybody suggest how i can fix this? i wish that i had taken better notes of the modifications that i was applying.

i can think of one fix that i could apply, but i would worry about overwriting a whole folder full of pictures later on.

    thanks and regards,

    hydrophyte

  • Hi,

Please assign 755 recursive permissions to your wp-contents folder of your blog..it should positively resolve the issue…

well i tried my alternative, creating new nested folders so a picture could follow that file path, but that didn’t work either. can anybody guess where this problem might be?

    anybody? i’m dyin’ ova’ here!

there must be someplace where is can adjust that setting and get new uploaded images to point to the right directory.

This folder exists. I just came from there.

    a) Check under Settings > Miscellaneous in your dashboard and see if the uploads folder path is wp-content/uploads, or user/wp-content/uploads.

    b) It wouldn’t hurt to make sure your permalinks updated correctly as well.
