can’t upload image – why is it trying to create directory?

    I’m on 2.6.1. Why is it so hard to upload images? I haven’t been able to do any yet, and it’s been hard to embed videos too, but at least I managed to do that. Blogger was much easier.

    When I try to upload I get this. Why is it trying to create a directory? Why not just dump the image file in uploads?

    Unable to create directory c:\hosting\…\missoulapolis/wp-content/uploads/2008/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Just out of curiosity I used filezilla to get in and create the /10 directory the image function seemed to want to create. Then I tried uploading again and got this.

    “The uploaded file could not be moved to c:\hosting\webhost4life\member\caroljm36\blog\missoulapolis/wp-content/uploads/2008/10.”

    The image file does not exist anywhere on the host so I don’t know why it says that.

    My file permissions are all 666 and I read here somewhere that they should be set to 777 for some uploads. Do I really have to set to execute, and how far up the file structure do I have to start?

    If you go to Settings > Misc there’s an option to put all the files in the uploads directory instead of organizing into year/month folders.

    It says it can’t “move” the file because it first uploads the file to a temporary directory on the server, which succeeded, and then tries to move it to your account’s specific directory, which failed.

    You’re on a windows server, so Unix style file permissions (666, 777, etc) don’t apply.
