Hi all I’m quite new to WP but have run into three problems, I hope this is the correct section?

    Ok problem’s

1), When ever I try to upload a custom avatar it does not work I used the Gravatar plug in to upload it. but it just doesent seem to upload even though I have resized the avatar to fit.

2),Same goes for my header, I resized a custom header to fit but when I upload it it just isn’t there.

3). If you look at the first image again in problem one you will see the calander (top right) does not seem to fit into the side bar properly

P.S I’m using the latest version of WordPress and the Simple WP Community Theme 1.6

Does this forum not support images?

Does this forum not support images?

    No – it doesn’t.

ahh ok, wasted my time with the screenshots then ??

When ever I try to upload a custom avatar it does not work

    Try using another avatar plugin.

when I upload it it just isn’t there.

Have you checked that the file was successfully added to your Media Library?

Remember to press CTRL and F5 simultaneously when viewing an updated page/site. Or try emptying your browser cache. This should ensure that your web browser fetches a fresh copy of the page rather than serving up an out-dated copy from your own cache.

    Also disable/deactivate any caching plugin(s).

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I’ve checked my media library and it appears that my images are not uploading properly there is an image which came with my template which is visible, but the two I have uploaded are not, the image name appears but there is no image with it.

    Any ideas?

I still can’t upload any images, I’m assuming that all media images go into a media folder somewhere in httpdocs?, I just looked through all my WP folders in httpdocs and cant find any media folder, this would pretty much explain why no images are uploading though as they are not going to where they should be, can someone tell me where abouts the media folder should be so I can create one.

    Thanks.

What’s your uploads path in Settings -> Media?

    Thread Starter RA_Dunk

    (@ra_dunk)

    httpdocs/blog/wordpress/wp-content/uploads

I take it there is no Media folder then and ‘uploads’ is default for uploaded images?

Funny thing is there are five images in the above directory and none of them are visible even though I’ve done the CTRL & f5 thing along with emptied my browser cache.

‘uploads’ is default for uploaded images?

Correct. Try just using wp-content/uploads for your uploads folder.

    Ahaa!!

Went to follow your advice by changing the directory to the one you said, then noticed this

    blog/wordpress/wp-content/uploads

    blog/wp-content/uploads

The Full URL path to files had a different name? could this have been the problem?

So now, I can upload them and see them when they are uploaded but cant add them to a post, all I get is a white screen where the image should be with a red icon for deleting the image?

P.S I;ve tried croping, resizing, and changing the alignment to suit, but still cant get it right! ??

Did you move WordPress after you installed it?

    Thread Starter RA_Dunk

    (@ra_dunk)

Thats a good question, I did have wordpress installed once all ready but I made a point in deleting everything in the blog directory when I ununstalled it, could there be a confliction some place you think?

This just seems a complete ballache to get an image working lol

If you are using the same original database, yes. It might be easiest to just move all of the file back to the original (?) blog/wordpress folder for now and tackle the site move from a different direction.

I actually deleted the directory ‘blog’ which WordPress was in though, then when I reinstalled I created a new directory called ‘blog’ for WordPress to back into?

So by deleting the original ‘blog’ directory surely everything relating to WordPress would have been deleted with it?

No. Your database contains all of the content of your blog – including the original urls. When you re-uploaded WordPress, did you run wp-admin/install.php? Did you use a new database?
