I’ve been trying to fix really large images on my website without having to upload the images again and then fixing the links and everything. My plan was to delete the image from the server, resize it, and then upload it back to the site via FTP into the same uploads/month folder it was in before and with the same filename as well so that the images would still show up in the same places, but with smaller image sizes. I wanted to use this plugin in order to get the images back into the media library, but it looks like when I used the same file name as it was before, Media from FTP doesn’t recognize the file.

Is there a reason for this, and is there a way around this? Thank you.

In the media library, delete the file and then upload it again.

I think this plugin(Enable Media Replace) is good.

Thank you, deleting the file in the actual media library first worked.

I have a similar problem to this:
    1. I deleted the jpg.
    2. Upload an edited version of the jpg but with the same filename.
    3. The old version of the jpg uploads and not the new version.

I’ve tried doing this with many different jpgs, cleared my cache and browsing history, but still the old version is uploaded. Even though the old version no longer exists in my external drive (from where I’m uploading) as I’ve replaced the jpg, just used the same filename. I’m not sure where WP is getting the old version from although it’s been deleted everywhere?

@nillamary, did you ever find a solution?

No and as you can see here, no one offered a solution.
I had to rename the files before re-uploading the same file.

    Thanks ??
