• I have been at this for ages and just can’t get the problem solved.

I am trying to add a background to a subsite on newebirl.ie/mcp3p

Everytime I try to add the file I get the following message:
Unable to create directory /var/***/vhosts/***.ie/***/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I have set the wp-content directory and its sub files and folders to 777 but still I can’t get the files to upload.

I’m having the same problems with the main site as well.

No media or backgrounds will upload to the server.

I have tried this on a number of different wordpress installs from 3.03 to 3.0.4 and none of them work.

What’s the user and group ownership of the folders?

I have just found out that my server is setup as follows

Apache Module – Safe Mode ON

When I change the setting to Safe Mode OFF the uploads are working.
I was told that this would cause a risk if it was server wide but as its site specific its not a problem.
