• Hi, very new here. I’ve followed all the directions to Upload and I can’t get an image on my site. This is the message I get after I Browse, select the jpg file I want, and hit the Upload button:

The uploaded file could not be moved to .

What does this mean? I assume it’s trying to move the file to a location that is wrong or does not exist, hence the period. But I am clueless.

I’m sure I’ll eventually be ftp’ing my images to a folder once I figure all this stuff out, but right now I’d like to take advantage of the Upload feature (and I should know why it’s not working.) Thanks for any help.

    https://www.ironfishtrading.com is the site address.

  • Under Options => Miscellaneous => Miscellaneous Options

Make sure your path is right there:
    wp-content/uploads

This will also depend on, if your blog is on the root or in a folder.. change that accordingly.. then hit the Update Options button..

Might have to make sure your:
    wp-content/uploads/

    Folders are chmodded to: 777

Since I posted in the Support Forum, I’ve now gotten this far:

Unable to create directory /home/virtual/site78/fst/var/www/html/wp-content/images/2006/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
    Back to Image Uploading

I created a folder called images in wp-content, and I changed the permissions of wp-content and images folders to 777. Still no dice.

Not sure what you mean by

“This will also depend on, if your blog is on the root or in a folder.. change that accordingly.. then hit the Update Options button..”

    change what to what?

Those date ones need chmodded 777 also:
    /wp-content/images/2006/10

Um, it appears you’re working straight off the domain.com itself right? So it’s all good, no need to worry about that part. Just chmod your two date folders now: 2006/10

Under Options => Miscellaneous => Miscellaneous Options

Make sure your path is right there:
    wp-content/images

    See if that helps..

I’ve been chmodding every darn file, the date file as you suggest, home, ironfishtradin, wp-content, html, var, www, etc. Nothing working. BTW, am I compromising security by changing all these file permissions on the parent files? Thanks, pulling out my hair.

even when I manually upload the jpg, and then hit view image on the website, I get this error:

    Not Found

The requested URL /var/www/html/wp-content/images/2006/chocolatedetail22.jpg was not found on this server.
Apache/2.0.46 (Red Hat) Server at ironfishtrading.com Port 80

Now I notice that the Unable message has a different path than the Not Found message:

Unable to create directory /home/virtual/site78/fst/var/www/html/wp-content/images/2006/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Not Found

The requested URL /var/www/html/wp-content/images/2006/chocolatedetail22.jpg was not found on this server.

Have my files gotten rearranged or fouled up somehow?

Or maybe it didn’t create the /10 subfolder? Shouldn’t that happen automatically when I select save by year/month? Sorry for all the talking to myself here, I’m sure it is not proper ettiquette.

Try removing that folder images/ that you’ve made, and the folders within that folder once. Then, like I said above:

Under Options => Miscellaneous => Miscellaneous Options

Make sure your path is right there:
    wp-content/images

Make sure there is a checkmark in the box for: “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders”

Hit the update button. Let WordPress make the folders itself. If that don’t work, then.. use the original setup.. for the uploads path:
    wp-content/uploads

    Then hit the update button.

This should be working though.. =/ And yes, having all those things, that you mentioned above chmodded 777 is BAD. I didn’t say chmod ALL of that stuff 777.. =P
