Can't update to 2.18.2 and can't activate paid extension – network unsafe!

yesterday I did renew my multisite/network plugin extension. Unfortunately, after doing it I am not able to activate it because if I go in settings, it says in order to activate it I have to update the plugin to 2.18.2
so I go to update it, and apparently the system says the plugin is being updated, but then when I refresh the plugins page, I am back to 2.18.1
apparently there is no way to do that update and therefore I can’t activate my paid extension and I’m left without security backups
is the update system broken for 2.18.2?
