I can not update most settings.

    Examples:
    – Scanner settings: I change the settings by hitting a button. Reload-notification of success pops up and still the previous settings appear.
    – Alert settings: same as Scanner settings
    – Igonore scanning: I disabled all directories – that one worked successfully.

    environment:
    > WP Multisite
    > plugin not activated network-wide, but per site
    > wordfence and ithemes security running too
    > access to most directories restricted

Question: where does the plugin write those settings to?

    Please help?

This may be an old issue, I have fixed many bugs in the code since the last update so you may want to try the development version and see if it fixes the storing of the settings.

To answer your last question, the plugin uses the options table in your main database to store its settings, several months ago we added support for network-based installations, so now the plugin uses the per-site options table. If you activate the plugin in your second site then you will find its settings in the options table of your second site and so on.

Let me know if the latest version solves your issues so I can mark this ticket as resolved.

    what is the recommended usage?

    network-wide or per-site?

Technically speaking both should work, try replacing the plugin with the development package, if it does not works then I will fix it.

You are right ?? Issue solved.

Will the dev version automatically update upon release(s)?

Yes, in fact the development version differentiate from the stable version because the first one does not has a version number and that it holds the latest code of the plugin. It is worth to mention that the development version may have some bugs because is not fully tested compared with the stable version, but we usually address these bugs very quickly so I can recommend you to continue using it.
