I’m not sure if the 5.8 upgrade broke things, but I’m having issues since that upgrade. When I log in to the admin console I briefly see an indicator that I have plugins to update, and then it goes away. On the Updates page, it says all of my plugins are up to date. They were almost all set to auto-update, but now they all have auto-update disabled. Any attempts to enable auto-update don’t change things.

I have Sucuri and it sends emails when plugins are out of date, that’s how I knew. I can go to the Plugins page and see they are all out of date. There is no option to update them from that page.

First, should I panic? I could update them all manually but that’s not sustainable. I’ve added filters to my functions.php file to auto-update plugins but it isn’t doing it, and my config file does not have any lines in it about updates. Second, what should I check next?

    Thanks!

  • I’m running 5.9 with the same problem BUT, I’ve tried everything possible that is mentioned in posts and articles and still cannot update plugins which is going to leave the (network) site a security risk.

I’ve run the health scan and it tells me plugins and themes need updating (doh) but that is what I’m trying to fix. No mention of any API problem.

I’ve tried debug, looking at logs, nothing obvious. I’ve updated the files all over again manually just to see if something had changed and still the same.

I’ve read countless ‘how to fix wordpress update problems’ with none of those things working.

There is nothing blocking/preventing wordpress from reaching the Internet and it’s in a data center so there is no Internet issue.

I’m running very current Apache/php and have access to the command line since we own our own hardware.

I’ve tried disabling all plugins, no change. I’ve tried combinations of them on/off and no change.

What is going on? How did some of you resolve this?
