• Today, all of a sudden, while trying to update a post I realise I can’t type the letter “N” any longer. At first I thought my keyboard was broken, but no, I was able to type perfectly anywhere else – including my blog’s search bar, post description, etc. The only place where I couldn’t write some letters (N was and still is perpetually broken, but others were acting up at times) was in the post themselves. I ended up copying and pasting from google docs in order to finish up my post, but as you can guess it’s not ideal. I really don’t know what could have happened. Any thing that changed since last time was that I updated Jetpack, but how could it interfere with my posts?

EDIT – It’s a jetpack issue. If I disable it, I can type everything once again. If I enable & set it up, the bug is back. I’ll try and post in the jetpack support area since it’s probably more accurate.

  • Which editor do you use for text input? To be able to understand this, you would need a bit more information, even if you already see Jetpack as a possible cause.

What do you mean with editor? I don’t think I have a plugin for that.

I mean the interface where you enter text, where you have the problem with typing.

Do you have the Block Editor, which should look something like this: https://kinsta.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/block-editor-interface-1024×880.png – or another one? Feel free to upload a screenshot of your view: https://imgur.com

Yes, this is the Block Editor. However, I don’t recognise any icons in it, e.g. this Template Kits button at the top. Is that coming in from your theme or another plugin?

You also use the “mesa-wpex” theme. Could you change it to a standard theme, e.g. TwentyTwentyThree? Does the problem still occur then? If so, deactivate all plug-ins. Even if you suspect JetPack, it could also be an interaction between JetPack, the theme or another plugin.

UPDATE – disabling Jetpack’s notifications seems to fix it. I found some people had a similar, albeit not identical, issue some time ago, and it had something to do with notifications so I gave it a try. If anyone needs it, you can deactivate them from this page: [yoursite.com]/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack_modules (apparently you can’t normally toggle them from your regular dashboard). I can live without notifications but it’s still a very puzzling bug.

…The Template kits were from Spectra, that I had deactivated with no useful result. I might try changing theme when I have some time to devote to it, although customising the one I have took a bit of work and I am not so willing to do everything from scratch if I am not sure it helps.

New wordpress install here, having the same issue.

    Unable to type A, S, N, D.

I have no plugins installed.. Do not use Jetpack.

Seems something off with either the 2024 theme or the editor itself.
