Can’t Turn off Rich Text Editor or XHTML auto-correction

    I have unchecked the boxes for using the rich text editor by default and auto-correcting XHTML in Options–>Writing. I have saved the changes multiple times, and when I go back to the options page it shows the check boxes correctly unchecked. However, nothing changes when I try to create or edit a page or post. The rich text editor still loads and the system (WordPress 2.0.5) still tries to wrap open and close paragraphs around everything when I save.

    What am I doing wrong?
