Can't trash posts without a title. Bug or feature

    We’re using posts of a certain category as news bits in the sidebar.
    Sometimes we’re just using them with images, no title. So they exist in the back-end without a title.

    I cannot delete/trash them when they have no title.
    As soon as I enter something, then update, then trash, it all works.

    The worst part is that using a plugin called Post Expirator refuses to work with posts that don’t have a title. This seems to be linked.

    Interesting question. I’m not certain if this is an intended feature or a bug. However, I would strongly suggest giving your blogs at least a temporary name.

    Can you tell me a little bit more about why you aren’t naming your posts? Are they published or drafts at this time as well.

    Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fifteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    @kc94108 … we have set up the posts system to display the headline, the article image and the content in our sidebar.
    If we only have an image, it is sort of like a banner-ad.
    Hence no title.

    @esmi … I actually wasn’t able to reproduce the error with new posts.
    Create post, no name, Post-Expirator and deleting worked flawlessly.
    Only the old articles were “stuck”.

    I realize that with a non-reroducable error it’s just a guessing game so for now I’ll mark this as “resolved”. Thanks for your inputs.

    Just a thought but – was this site moved or restored from an older db backup at any point?

    Hmm, not to my knowledge. Must ask the programmers if they covered something up ??

    The fact that this only seems to be happening with old posts implies that there may have been some database damage previously. Either way, might be best to ask your programmers to run repairs on all of the database tables just in case that helps.
